Why colloquies?

When you hear the word colloquy, it might feel like something pulled from an old philosophy book or a courtroom transcript. But at its root, the word is simple and powerful.

A colloquy is a conversation, an exchange of ideas, reflections, and perspectives that goes deeper than surface-level talk.

For years, I performed in various ways while trying to figure out who I was. I code-switched. I made myself smaller, quieter, more palatable. I learned the exhausting choreography of belonging without ever quite arriving. And then one day, I realized: what if I stopped auditioning? What if I stopped performing?

Vee’s Colloquies is where I process that shift—from performance to presence, from armor to authenticity. This is a space for honest reflections on race, identity, resilience, and what it means to exist fully in a world that often demands we exist carefully.

These aren’t essays with tidy conclusions. They’re colloquies—ongoing dialogues with myself, with you, and with the questions that refuse to stay quiet.

What does it mean to belong without disappearing?
How do we build resilience without hardening ourselves?
When does protection become a prison?

I write for anyone who has felt caught between worlds. For those who have negotiated their existence. For those drawn to the messy, beautiful space between who we’ve been, who we’re becoming, and who we hope to be.
